Plane Spotting at LAX (2/2)

The previous part of this post is definitely the optimal plane spotting location to get up close and personal with the jetliners that frequent LAX. However, if you’re in the mood for a more relaxing spot, away from the loud and busy LA traffic, I highly recommend Dockweiler Beach. This small beach in Playa Del Rey is located directly under the takeoff path at LAX, so you’re bound to see planes taking off over the water. As an added bonus, the sunsets here are stunning – you can watch planes taking off into the night for hours.

Location: The part of Dockweiler Beach that’s optimal for viewing takeoffs from runways 7R/25L and 7L/25R is dubbed the Dockweiler Picnic Area. It is a short walk from the Pershing/Imperial stop on the LA Metro Bus 625. If you plan on driving though, don’t park in the official lot – parking is expensive, especially during high season, and the lot could be closed during sunset hours. There are a couple of street parking spots on the northbound side of Vista Del Mar, located directly across from a path with a railing descending to the beach.
